North Tyneside is a geographical area and metropolitan borough in the north east of England. It stretches between the City of Newcastle of Tyne and the east coast and along the north bank of the river Tyne. It includes the towns of Wallsend, North Shields, Killingworth, Tynemouth and Whitley Bay, and forms part of the built-up county of Tyne and Wear.
Wallsend is famous as the east end of Hadrian’s Wall built by the Romans from AD 122 to mark and control the northern boundary of the Roman Empire. The excavated Roman fort and baths now form the Segedunum museum.
It has a proud industrial history of coal mining, engineering and ship building and an existing fishing industry at North Shields. It now has a diverse mix of traditional industries and new economic sectors. The beautiful coast between Tynemouth and Seaton Sluice attracts many visitors
