Sounding Out – Summer 2026

This term has marked an exciting new chapter for Sounding Out as it is the first full term funded solely by mo4y.

The Sounding Out project provides a wide range of high-quality musical opportunities for our young people, helping them to develop new skills, build confidence and explore their creativity.

Recent highlights include:

  • Bernii Mac working with the young people on developing their vocal technique, performance skills and confidence;
  • Phil Caffrey delivering an interactive songwriting workshop;
  • visits to Heartbreak Recording Studios to experience a professional recording environment;
  • hosting an iPad music production workshop led by David Smith from Sapien Records, using Garage Band software;
  • welcoming Northern Pulse for a DJ workshop;
  • a second vocal coaching session with Bernii Mac and Free Space;
  • launching a podcast project in June;
  • a live gig at Crew Gal Creative House on 1st July

You can read a full account of the projects recent activities and plans here.

We are delighted to have been able to bridge the funding gap for the project between the end of Government funding, provided through the national Levelling Up scheme, and the hopefully securing new sources of funding to take the project forward next year.

Sounding Out is held at the John Willie Sams Community Centre on a Wednesday, 4:30pm – 6:30pm.
